LVRA Reds fall short against the Blacks

Oct 23 2010 (Silvestri Middle School) On a beautiful Saturday morning the Las Vegas Rugby Academy Student-Athletes took the rugby pitch ready to showcase what they learn from training. Each team doing their warm-ups and trying to catch their second wind minutes before kickoff.

At the start of the whistle the game was fast and quick. Each team trying to find their rhythms and play their pattern.

Black’s Coach Allen D. “ Our game plan was to spread the ball early and attack midfield. On defense we wanted to force the Reds to make mistake so we can capitalize on it.

Red’s Coach Cody “ We wanted to attack them (LVRA Blacks) early with our forwards and then send the ball wide. We had a new player in fly half in Taylee. She did well but through training and game time under her belt, she will be a effect player maker.”

The Blacks follow their game plan and spread the ball wide causing the Reds to scramble to defend their goal. After 10 min. of attack Black’s Alex found the Try line (5-0). Blacks 2nd try came from a scrum on the right side of the 50 meter. #9 Shane got the ball to his backline who did some nifty ball movement to go wide. Black’s forwards were there on support to ruck, where #9 Shane sends its to #10 Isaac to made a awesome scissors to send #14 Alex under the post. (10-0). The LVRA Reds responded with a 80 meter solo try from Jeff. Jeff picked up the ball after the Blacks backline knocked it and went the distance. Red’s Jeff out pace 3 defenders and side step another in his hat trick try.
Reds Captain, Makena “It was an awesome solo effort and moral boost to our team” Reds got back on the board with the forwards #8 Dallen doing the hard work to beat the defender to score in the right corner.

Halftime score Reds 20 Blacks 25

Second half was another story as the Blacks scored 4 unanswered tries to take a 35-20 lead. But the Reds fought back and seem to close the gab only to have the final whistle end the game. Assist Coach Keith was not to happy with how his team performed after scoring 4 tries. “ We (Blacks) let them back in the game with poor defense and lack of communication. That’s something we will be working on at training” If there was a little bit more time in the half I think the Reds would have made history as one of the best comeback of all time. Reds Coach Cody “ I’m proud of the players and how they reply back being down 40-20 and losing 40-30. They never gave up and worked hard. We will go back to the drawing board and work out the mistakes”

The score could have been closer being 30-35. The Reds were attacking and a knock-on gave the ball to the Blacks who with 2 passes found space and out ran the Reds cover defense. This is was one of the most memorable games of the Las Vegas Rugby Academy history.

LVRA Blues hold on to beat the LVRA Chiefs

Las Vegas Rugby Academy Under 7/Under 10

The Blues did everything in their power to hold the Chiefs from scoring. The Chiefs were without their high scoring player Ami due sickness.

Cheifs Coach Tino F. " Not having Ami on the field hurt our scoring opportunity but made us work more as a team. Iam more impressed with how our team stuck together and kept fighting till the final whistle"

The Blues got on the board 1st with some excellent ball movement saw Anthony score from 15meter out. Anthony also score 4 more tries to help the Blues take the win.

Blues Coach Jessica R. "Anthony was awesome today and you can tell he knows his way around the rugby field. Anthony is a great asset to the Blues with his knowledge and understanding of the game. He also has a sweet accent"

Anthony is a transfer player from England, whose father had to relocated to Las Vegas for work. Anthony has a bright future in the Las Vegas Rugby Academy and in rugby.

The Chiefs got the board a few mintues with Tristen doing the honor. The conversion was missed (7-5) Also for the Chiefs Naya got 2 tries and Job got one. Tristen also add two more tries.

Final score was 41-37 as the Blues holds on to win a thriller. A side note was the Under 7/Under 10 got Goal Post and was awesome to see the kids faces as they tried to kick the conversion after scoring. Also scoring for the Blues were Domanic and Dillian. We have some future rugby star coming from the Las Vegas Rugby Academy.
