LVRA Hurricanes hold on to win
LAS VEGAS RUGBY ACADEMY
Under 19/Under 13
Nov. 13 2010 (Silvestri Middle School)
In the final game of the Fall Season the LVRA Hurricanes upset the LVRA Brumbies 40-35. The game started with Hurricanes kicking off the ball. The Brumbies using their deadly back attacked from their own 22 and was awarded with John scoring in the left corner (5-0). John will score his 2nd of 3 tries after tackling his opposite # and taking the ball to score under the post (Brumbies 10-0 Hurricanes). The Brumbies then turn the ball over again and this time saw Cody score his 1st of 2 tries. (15-0) it looked like it was going to be another blow out game for the brumbies, but the Hurricanes other plans.
Trailing by 15 points the LVRA Hurricanes lead by their playmaker, Shane #9 attacked the Brumbies forward pack. Hurricanes forward began to move the ball up the field and Shane was able to receive a pass from Dallan to score. (5-15). Shane led the Hurricanes in scoring 3 tries and was controlling the pattern and game plan. Coach Cody “Shane did well under pressure to regroup his team and focus on playing Hurricane rugby.” Hurricane scored their 2nd try with some nifty ball handling from the backline and sent the ball out wide where Alex #11 did the rest. (Hurricane 10 Brumbies 15) Before the whistle for halftime, Brumbies responded back with Jeff #13 intercepting a pass and going 40 meters to score.
(HALFTIME: Brumbies 20 Hurricanes 10)
The 2nd half started the same way the first half with the Brumbies John #13 intercepting a pass and out running 2 hurricane defender. (Brumbies 25 Hurricanes 10). That try must have hit a nerve in the Hurricanes team. The Hurricanes went to work and score 3 tries (Shane 2 and Alex). With the score tie and halfway through the 2nd half, the game got a little bit more intense and exciting. The Brumbies scored a try from Cody #9 and then John #13 to take a 10 point lead. But it was short lived as the Hurricanes Shane #9 scored his 3 try from the base of the ruck and then Isaac #10 intercepting the ball to even the score. Hurricanes took the lead for the 1st time with a try from new player Dayline #6. (Hurricanes 40 Brumbies 35). “It was awesome to score my 1st try in rugby and I look forward to more” said Dayline. Brumbies had several opportunities to score but handling errors and mental mistake hinder their chances. With the win LVRA Hurricanes goes into the Fall Championship with confidence while the LVRA Brumbies goes back to prepare to defend the title.
